Abstract:
The objective of the present study is to elucidate the hydrological conditions of the shelf waters along the southern half or the west coast of India and their relation to the sooplankton bionase and pelagic fish resources. Data from six hydrography-plankton sections worked during the 1972-75 period of cape camerin. Quilon. cochin. Kasaragod. Karwar and kotnagiri formed the basis of the present study.Stations were fixed along the transects 10 nautical miles apart. Starting with the first station at around 15 metre depth and were usually occupied 5 to 8 times in an year at an interval of about 6 weeks. Data relating to oil sardines and macherel fisheries were availed from published information relating to the period mainly of the Central Marine fisheries Research Institute. The range of different parameters namely temperature. salinity. density and dissolved oxygen at different depths and their sloping features against the coast are discussed. Three seasons. namely south-west monsoon (summer monsoon). north-east monsoon (winter monsoon) and hot weather season are designated and data of the core months of each of these seasons considered in the study.

Abstract:
The research work which was carried out to study the impact of
ISO 9001: 2000, in selected organisations in Kerala, spread over various types
of activities, such as fabrication of aero space hardware, glass ware,
construction industries, health care units etc, encompassing, government and
private enterprises, public sector undertakings, small and medium scale
industries and research and development establishments. The ambience, work
culture and collaboration prevalent in these organisations were varying on
account of the environment in which they have been working. Fifty percent of
the organizations selected for the study had obtained the
ISO 900 I: 2000-certification since seven years or more. The process of study
undertaken could invoke interest in the respondents, when a brief explanation
on the purpose and need of the study was given to them prior to conducting the
survey. There has been total cooperation from the management and the
employees of all the organisations for the conduct of the study. Personal
discussions were held with the senior management to draw their total support
and involvement for the study.

Abstract:
Information communication technology (IC T) has invariably brought about
fundamental changes in the way in which libraries gather. preserve and disseminate
information. The study was carried out with an aim to estimate and compare the
information seeking behaviour (ISB) of the academics of two prominent universities of
Kerala in the context of advancements achieved through ICT.
The study was motivated by the fast changing scenario of libraries with the
proliferation of many high tech products and services. The main purpose of the study
was to identify the chief source of information of the academics, and also to examine
academics preference upon the form and format of information source. The study also
tries to estimate the adequacy of the resources and services currently provided by the
libraries. The questionnaire was the central instrument for data collection. An almost census method was adopted for data collection engaging various methods and tools for
eliciting data. The total population of the study was 957, out of which questionnaire was distributed to 859 academics. 646 academics responded to the survey, of which 564 of them were sound responses. Data was coded and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software and also with the help of Microsofl Excel package. Various statistical techniques were engaged to analyse data. A paradigm shift is evident by the fact that academies push themselves towards information in internet i.e. they prefer electronic source to traditional source and the very shift is coupled itself with e-seeking of information. The study reveals that ISB of the academics is influenced priman'ly by personal factors and comparative analysis shows that the ISB ofthc academics is similar in both universities. The productivity of the academics was tested to dig up any relation with respect to their ISB, and it is found that productivity of the academics is extensively related with their ISB. Study also reveals that the users ofthe library are satisfied with the services provided but not with the sources and in conjunction, study also recommends ways and means to improve the existing library system.

Abstract:
Oceans play a vital role in the global climate system. They absorb the incoming solar energy and redistribute the energy through horizontal and vertical transports. In this context it is important to investigate the variation of heat budget components during the formation of a low-pressure system. In 2007, the monsoon onset was on 28th May. A well- marked low-pressure area was formed in the eastern Arabian Sea after the onset and it further developed into a cyclone. We have analysed the heat budget components during different stages of the cyclone. The data used for the computation of heat budget components is Objectively Analyzed air-sea flux data obtained from WHOI (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) project. Its horizontal resolution is 1° × 1°. Over the low-pressure area, the latent heat flux was 180 Wm−2. It increased to a maximum value of 210 Wm−2 on 1st June 2007, on which the system was intensified into a cyclone (Gonu) with latent heat flux values ranging from 200 to 250 Wm−2. It sharply decreased after the passage of cyclone. The high value of latent heat flux is attributed to the latent heat release due to the cyclone by the formation of clouds. Long wave radiation flux is decreased sharply from 100 Wm−2 to 30 Wm−2 when the low-pressure system intensified into a cyclone. The decrease in long wave radiation flux is due to the presence of clouds. Net heat flux also decreases sharply to −200 Wm−2 on 1st June 2007. After the passage, the flux value increased to normal value (150 Wm−2) within one day. A sharp increase in the sensible heat flux value (20 Wm−2) is observed on 1st June 2007 and it decreased there- after. Short wave radiation flux decreased from 300 Wm−2 to 90 Wm−2 during the intensification on 1st June 2007. Over this region, short wave radiation flux sharply increased to higher value soon after the passage of the cyclone.

Abstract:
The main benefit of Jeevan Saathi policy is that, it is a joint
life policy which covers the life of both husband and wife under a
single policy. And they also get double benefit if any one of them
dies during the term of the policy. The Jeevan Mitra policy is a
single life policy, the main advantage of which is that the dependents
get double benefit in case of normal death and triple benefit in case
of accidental death during the term of policy.
so both the policies have their own attractions but when compared
with the annual sales of other policies, the additional increase in
the sales of these policies are decreasing. It is a fact finding
study concerned with market performance of these two policies by conducting
a survey among the Jeevan Saathi and Jeevan Mitra policy
holders, and a thorough analysis of the various information or data
collected from them. This study is an attempt to present an integrated
picture of the main features of the policy holders who have
bought these policies, the major factors responsible for making them
purchase these policies, the various difficulties faced by them at present and further modification needed in the plans of these policies
according to the opinion of policy holders. For increasing accuracy
of the conclusions, information is also collected from Agents and
Development Officers by using interview schedule.
The main purpose of this study is to draw attention of LIC to
introduce new plans of policies taking into consideration the drawbacks
or defects of the existing policies and present needs of policy
holders. It will also help to make new plans in order to suit the
needs of more people who want to buy life insurance policies

Abstract:
With the increase in population, housing and construction of various facilities have been a problem with urbanization. Having exhausted all the trouble free hand, man is nowon the lookout for techniques to improve areas which were originally considered uninhabitable. Thus this study is based on the nature and engineering behavior of soft clays covering long stretches of coastal line and methods to improve their geotechnical properties .The main aim of the present investigation is to study in detail the physical and engineering behavior of the marine clays of Cochin. While it is well known that the marine clays have been posing numerous problems to foundation engineers all along, the relevant literature reveals that no systematic and comprehensive study has been attempted to date. The: knowledge gained through the study is suitably used to improve these properties with appropriate additives.

Abstract:
With the advent of urbanisation and consequent
search for more and more habitable land, it was imperative
that the large tracts of marine clays, considered inhabitable
earlier, had to be reclaimed and developed. These marine
clays, wellknown for its high compressibility and poor shear
strength, posed numerous problems to the builders and Cochin
was no exception. It is only less than a decade since active
research work was initiated on marine clays in general and
Cochin marine clays in particular. Eventhough some systematic
studies are available on compressibility characteristics,
attempts to study the shear strength aspects and development
of techniques to improve it have been very limited. This work
is an investigation on the consolidation and shear strength
characteristics of Cochin marine clays including methods to
improve the same
