Abstract: | This study was undertaken to isolate ligninase-producing white-rot fungi for use in the extraction of fibre from pineapple leaf agriwaste. Fifteen fungal strains were isolated from dead tree trunks and leaf litter. Ligninolytic enzymes (lignin peroxidase (LiP), manganese peroxidase (MnP), and laccase (Lac)), were produced by solid-state fermentation (SSF) using pineapple leaves as the substrate. Of the isolated strains, the one showing maximum production of ligninolytic enzymes was identified to be Ganoderma lucidum by 18S ribotyping. Single parameter optimization and response surface methodology of different process variables were carried out for enzyme production. Incubation period, agitation, and Tween-80 were identified to be the most significant variables through Plackett-Burman design. These variables were further optimized by Box-Behnken design. The overall maximum yield of ligninolytic enzymes was achieved by experimental analysis under these optimal conditions. Quantitative lignin analysis of pineapple leaves by Klason lignin method showed significant degradation of lignin by Ganoderma lucidum under SSF |

Abstract: | A marine isolate of jáÅêçÅçÅÅìë MCCB 104 has been identified as an aquaculture probiotic antagonistic to sáÄêáç. In the present study different carbon and nitrogen sources and growth factors in a mineral base medium were optimized for enhanced biomass production and antagonistic activity against the target pathogen, sáÄêáç=Ü~êîÉóá, following response surface methodology (RSM). Accordingly the minimum and maximum limits of the selected variables were determined and a set of fifty experiments programmed employing central composite design (CCD) of RSM for the final optimization. The response surface plots of biomass showed similar pattern with that of antagonistic activity, which indicated a strong correlation between the biomass and antagonism. The optimum concentration of the carbon sources, nitrogen sources, and growth factors for both biomass and antagonistic activity were glucose (17.4 g/L), lactose (17 g/L), sodium chloride (16.9 g/L), ammonium chloride (3.3 g/L), and mineral salts solution (18.3 mL/L). © KSBB |

Abstract: | SnS thin films were prepared using automated chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) technique. Single-phase, p-type, stoichiometric, SnS films with direct band gap of 1.33 eV and having very high absorption coefficient (N105/cm) were deposited at substrate temperature of 375 °C. The role of substrate temperature in determining the optoelectronic and structural properties of SnS films was established and concentration ratios of anionic and cationic precursor solutions were optimized. n-type SnS samples were also prepared using CSP technique at the same substrate temperature of 375 °C, which facilitates sequential deposition of SnS homojunction. A comprehensive analysis of both types of films was done using x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive x-ray analysis, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, optical absorption and electrical measurements. Deposition temperatures required for growth of other binary sulfide phases of tin such as SnS2, Sn2S3 were also determined |

Abstract: | Significant results of our experimental investigations on the dependence of pH on real time transmission characteristics on recording media fabricated by doping PVC with complexed methylene blue are presented. The optimum pH value for faster bleaching was found to be 4×5. In typical applications, the illumination from one side, normal to the surface of this material, initiates a chemical sequence that records the incident light pattern in the polymer. Thus direct imaging can be successfully done on this sample. The recorded letters were very legible with good contrast and no scattering centres. Diffraction efficiency measurements were also carried out on this material. |

Abstract: | The optimum growth requirements of two nitrifying consortia developed from treated sewage by enrichment technique were determined by a series of experiments. There was total inhibition of nitrification at above 2.75 g r' NH/- Nand 2.5g r' N02' - N and the ammonia oxidizing consortium preferred a pH at 8.5 and the nitrite oxidizing consortium a pH of 7.5 as the optima for nitrification. Optimum temperatures were between 20° and 30°C for both the groups. As the rate of airnow was increased from I to 7 Ilmin, the build-up of N02- -N increased 10-fold and the consumption of N02- -N increased by a factor of 28.8 implying that the ammonia oxidizing consortium in a bioreactor required three times more aeration than that for nitrite oxidizers for ex pressing their full nitrifying potential. These data directly contribute for developing a fermentati on process for the mass production of nitrifiers as well as for designing bio reactors for nitrifying sewage. |

Abstract: | IT and related services played a major role for India’s current 9.2. GDP growth. Organized retailing in India is one more example for its open economy. The IT industries where able develop a demand for Indian talents all over the world and improved their living standards. It directly impacts only a small minority of Indian population while organized retail affects every single Indian and every sector of Indian society. The paper gives a glimpse of the slow evolution of retail market over the years in India and its contribution for economic growth. The likely positive impact of this revolution in different sectors is enumerated. Paper addresses its ability to manipulate consumption pattern of society, increased customer satisfaction and likely change in the market shares of the different types of sellers. Paper discusses its flip sides like increasing social tension among families below poverty line and greater loss of self employment opportunities by this revolution. The main theme of enquiry of this paper is what it all means for the Indian society. |

Abstract: | The vibrational overtone spectra 0f the liquid phase 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,2-dibromoethane in the spectral regions of CH stretching local mode overtones corresponding to delta v CH= = 2 to delta v CH=5 are reported. The observed spectral features are assigned using the local mode model. LocaI mode frequencies WCH and diagonal local mode anharmonicities XCH are obtained from an analysis of the spectra. The local-local combinations observed are interpreted on the basis of a coupled CH oscillator model hamiltonian. Local-normal combinations show complex structures and their possible assignments are given. |

Abstract: | Vibrational overtone spectra of styrene (liquid) and polystyrene (solid), studied by the laser-induced thermal lens (for ΔV=6) and the conventional near infrared absorption (for ΔV=3–5) techniques, are reported. For polystyrene, the overtone energy-bond length correlation predicts that the aryl CH bonds are ∼0.0005 Å longer than that in benzene, while no such conclusions could be drawn on styrene. Thesp 3 CH overtones in polystyrene are observed on the low energy side of the aryl CH overtones. |

Abstract: | The metal complex, [Ni(en)2(H2O)2](NO3)2 (en = ethylenediamine), was decomposed in a static furnace at 200 C by autogenous decomposition to obtain phase pure metallic nickel nanocrystallites. The nickel metal thus obtained was studied by XRD, IR spectra, SEM and CHN analysis. The nickel crystallites are in the nanometer range as indicated by XRD studies. The IR spectral studies and CHN analyses show that the surface is covered with a nitrogen containing species. Thermogravimetric mass gain shows that the product purity is high (93%). The formed nickel is stable and resistant to oxidation up to 350 C probably due to the coverage of nitrogen containing species. Activation energy for the oxidation of the prepared nickel nanocrystallites was determined by non-isothermal methods and was found to depend on the conversion ratio. The oxidation kinetics of the nickel crystallites obeyed a Johnson–Mehl–Avrami mechanism probably due to the special morphology and crystallite strain present on the metal. |

Abstract: | We define a new graph operator called the P3 intersection graph, P3(G)- the intersection graph of all induced 3-paths in G. A characterization of graphs G for which P-3 (G) is bipartite is given . Forbidden subgraph characterization for P3 (G) having properties of being chordal , H-free, complete are also obtained . For integers a and b with a > 1 and b > a - 1, it is shown that there exists a graph G such that X(G) = a, X(P3( G)) = b, where X is the chromatic number of G. For the domination number -y(G), we construct graphs G such that -y(G) = a and -y (P3(G)) = b for any two positive numbers a > 1 and b. Similar construction for the independence number and radius, diameter relations are also discussed. |

Abstract: | In this article it is proved that the stationary Markov sequences generated by minification models are ergodic and uniformly mixing. These results are used to establish the optimal properties of estimators for the parameters in the model. The problem of estimating the parameters in the exponential minification model is discussed in detail. |

Abstract: | To demonstrate pathological changes due to white spot virus infection in Fenneropenaeus indicus, a batch of hatchery bred quarantined animals was experimentally infected with the virus. Organs such as gills, foregut, mid-gut, hindgut, nerve, eye, heart, ovary and integument were examined by light and electron microscopy. Histopathological analyses revealed changes hitherto not reported in F. indicus such as lesions to the internal folding of gut resulted in syncytial mass sloughed off into lumen, thickening of hepatopancreatic connective tissue with vacuolization of tubules and necrosis of rectal pads in hindgut. Virus replication was seen in the crystalline tract region of the compound eye and eosinophilic granules infiltrated from its base. In the gill arch, dilation and disintegration of median blood vessel was observed. In the nervous tissues, encapsulation and subsequent atrophy of hypertrophied nuclei of the neurosecretory cells were found. Transmission electron microscopy showed viral replication and morphogenesis in cells of infected tissue. De novo formed vesicles covered the capsid forming a bilayered envelop opened at one end inside the virogenic stroma. Circular vesicles containing nuclear material was found fused with the envelop. Subsequent thickening of the envelop resulted in the fully formed virus. In this study, a correlation was observed between the stages of viral multiplication and the corresponding pathological changes in the cells during the WSV infection. Accordingly, gill and foregut tissues were found highly infected during the onset of clinical signs itself, and are proposed to be used as the tissues for routine disease diagnosis. |
