| Abstract: | The latex industry has expanded over the years to meet the world demands for gloves, condoms, latex thread etc. Because of the strict specifications for the products and the unstable nature of the latex, as high as 15%, of the final latex products are rejected. Since waste latex rubber (WLR) represents a source of high quality rubber hydrocarbon, it is a potential candidate for generating reclaimed rubber of superior quality. Two types of WLR with different amounts of polysulfidic bridges are used in these experiments, which are reclaimed with variation of the concentration of the reclaiming agents, the reclamation temperature and time, Di phenyldisultide, 2-aminophenyldisulfide and 2,2'-dibenzamidodiphenyldisulfide (DBADPDS) are used as reclaiming agents, and the effect of diphenyldisulfides (DPDS) with different substituents, on the reclamation efficiency of WLR is investigated. A kinetic study of the reclamation reaction with the three reclaiming agents is done. The reaction rates and activation energies are calculated and compared with literature values. The comparative study of the three different reclaiming agents shows that (DBADPDS) is able to break the crosslinks at temperature levels 20'C below the temperature levels normally used with DPDS. Another advantage of this reclaiming agent is the reduced smell during the reclamation process and of the final reclaims, one of the most important shortcomings of other disulfides used for this purpose. |

| Abstract: | ABSTRACT: Polyaniline was synthesized by using ammonium persulfate initiator in the presence of 1M HC1. It was dried under different drying conditions like room temperature drying (for 48 h), oven drying (at 50-60°C for 8 h under a vacuum), and vacuum drying (at room temperature for 16 h). The conductivities of these samples were measured at microwave frequencies. These samples were also pelletized and the measurements were repeated. | Abstract: | Selected grades of low density polyethylene (LDPE) polystyrene (PS) were extruded in a laboratory extruder by varying the feeding rate at different revolutions per minute and temperatures. The mechanical properties of the extruded plastic sheets were determined. LDPE shows a marked variation in mechanical properties with feeding rate while PS shows a marginal change in mechanical properties with feeding rate. However, for both plastics there is a particular feeding rate in the starved region which results in maximum mechanical properties. |

| Abstract: | The effect of various processing parameters, such as nip gap, friction ratio and roll temperature, on the tensile properties of short Kevlar aramid fibre-thermoplastic polyurethane composite has been investigated and the tensile and tear fracture surfaces have been characterised using a scanning electron microscope. A nip gap of 0.45 mm, a friction ratio of 1.15 and a roll temperature of 62°C was found to give optimum mechanical properties. Scanning electron microscopy study revealed a higher extent of fibre orientation in the milling direction in the above condition. |

| Abstract: | Chloroprene rubber was blended with whole tire reclaimed rubber (WTR) in presence of different levels of a coupling agent Si69 [bis- (3-(triethoxysilyl)propy1)tetrasuIfide] and the cure characteristics and mechanical properties were studied. The rate and state of cure were also affected by the coupling agent. While the cure time was increased, the cure rate and scorch time were decreased with increasing silane content. Compression set and resilience were adversely affected in presence of silane-coupling agent.Aging studies showed that the blends containing the coupling agent were inferior to the unmodified blends. |

| Abstract: | Blends of nitrile rubber and reclaimed rubber containing different levels of a coupling agent, Si 69 (bis(3- triethoxysilyl propyl)(tetrasulphide) were prepared and the cure characteristic's and mechanical properties were studied. Optimum loading of Si-69 was found to be a function of blend ratio. 3 phi- of Si 69 in a 70:30. Blend was found to be the optimum combination with respect to the mechanical properties. While the state of cure improved, the cure rate and scorch time decreased with increasing silane content. | Abstract: | Prevulcanized natural rubber latex was prepared by the heating of the latex compound at 55°C for different periods of time (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 h). The changes in the colloidal stability and physical properties were evaluated during the course of prevulcanization. The prevulcanized latex compounds were stored for 300 days, and the properties were monitored at different storage intervals (0, 20, 40, 60, 120, 180, 240, and 300 days). During prevulcanization, the mechanical stability time increased, and the viscosity remained almost constant. The tensile strength increased during storage for a period of 20 days. The degree of crosslinking, modulus, elongation at break, and chloroform number were varied with the time of storage. |

| Abstract: | The cure characteristics and mechanical properties of short nylon fiber- styrene /whole tyre reclaim (SBR/WTR) composites with and without an interfacial bonding agent based on 4,4 diphenyl methane diisocyanate and polyethylene glycol (MDI/PEG) have been studied. An 80:40 blend of SBR/ WTR reinforced with 20 phr of short nylon fiber has been selected and the MDI/ PEG ratio has been changed from 0.67:1 to 2:1. The minimum and maximum torques increased with isocyanate concentration. The scorch time and cure time showed an initial reduction. The cure rate showed an initial improvement. Tensile strength, tear strength and abrasion resistance increased with MDI/PEG ratio, these values were higher in longitudinal direction. Resilience and compression set increased with isocyanate concentration. |

| Abstract: | Unsaturated polyester resins (UPRs) are used widely in the fiber-reinforced plastics (FRPs) industry. These resins have the disadvantages of brittleness and poor resistance to crack propagation. In this study, hybrid polymer networks (HPNs) based on UPR and epoxidized phenolic novolacs (EPNs) were prepared by reactive blending. A HPN is composed of a backbone polymer containing two types of reactive groups that can take part in crosslinking reactions via different mechanisms. EPNs were prepared by glycidylation of novolacs using epichlorohydrin. The novolacs had varying phenol: formaldehyde ratios. Blends of unsaturated polyester with EPN were then prepared. The physical properties of the cured blends were compared with those of the control resin. EPN shows good miscibility and compatibility with the resin and improves the toughness and impact resistance substantially. Considerable enhancement of tensile strength is also noticed at about 5% by weight of epoxidized novolac resin. TGA, DMA, and DSC were used to study the thermal properties of the toughened resin and the fracture behavior was studied using SEM. The blends are also found to have better thermal stability. Blending with EPN can be a useful and cost-effective technique for modification of UPR |

| Abstract: | Hybrid polymer networks (HPNs) based on unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) and epoxy resins were synthesized by reactive blending. The epoxy resins used were epoxidised phenolic novolac (EPN), epoxidised cresol novolac (ECN) and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). Epoxy novolacs were prepared by glycidylation of the novolacs using epichlorohydrin. The physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of the cured blends were compared with those of the control resin. Epoxy resins show good miscibility and compatibility with the UPR resin on blending and the co-cured resin showed substantial improvement in the toughness and impact resistance. Considerable enhancement of tensile strength and toughness are noticed at very low loading of EPN. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and diVerential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were employed to study the thermal properties of the toughened resin. The EPN/ UPR blends showed substantial improvement in thermal stability as evident from TGA and damping data. The fracture behaviour was corroborated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). | Abstract: | Ash-based polymer composites are assuming increasing importance because of the pollutant potential, fine particle size, and low price of ash. Fly ash and rice husk ash are two prominent ash materials on which some investigations have already been done for potential use in polymer composites. This article highlights the results of a study on the use of wood ash in HDPE. Wood ash is mainly a mixture of various metallic compounds and some silica. Here, the characterization of wood ash has been done with the help of XRD, ICPAES, light scattering based particle size analysis, FTIR, and SEM. The results show that wood ash particle size has an average value of 293 nm, much lower than other categories of ash. When blended with HDPE in the presence of a compatibilizer, wood ash gives rise to vastly improved mechanical properties over that of the base polymer. The results prove that wood ash is a valuable reinforcing material for HDPE and the environmental pollution due to wood ash can be solved in a most profitable way by this technique. |

| Abstract: | High styrene rubber ionomers were prepared by sulfonating styrene–butadiene rubber of high styrene content (high styrene rubber) in 1,2-dichloroethane using acetyl sulfate reagent, followed by neutralization of the precursor acids using methanolic zinc acetate. The ionomers were characterized using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and also by the evaluation of mechanical properties. The FTIR studies of the ionomer reveal that the sulfonate groups are attached to the benzene ring. The NMR spectra give credence to this observation. Results of DMA show an ionic transition (Ti) in addition to glass–rubber transition (Tg). Incorporation of ionic groups results in improved mechanical properties as well as retention of properties after three cycles of processing |

| Abstract: | Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) and isobutylene-isoprene rubber (IIR) were compounded, precured to a low degree, and then were blended with natural rubber (NR). The compounding ingredients for NR were then added and the final curing was done. NR/ EPDM and NR/IIR blends, prepared using this method, were found to possess much improved mechanical properties as compared to their conventional counterparts. The optimum precuring crosslink density that has to be given to the EPDM and IIR phases has been determined. |

| Abstract: | A novel method of blending natural rubber with polyvinylchloride in the latex stage was developed, Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and Amine terminated natural rubber (ATNR) were used as plasticisers, for improving the mechanical properties of these blends. | Abstract: | Zinc salts of ethyl, isopropyl, and butyl xanthates are prepared in the laboratory, and the effect of these xanthates with zinc diethyl dithiocarbamate (ZDC) on the vulcanization of HAF-filled nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) compounds has been studied at different temperatures. The cure times of these compounds have been compared with that of NBR compounds containing TMTD/MBTS. The rubber compounds with the three xanthate accelerators and ZDC are cured at various temperatures from 60 to 150°C. The sheets are molded and properties such as tensile strength, tear strength, cross-link density, elongation at break, compression set, abrasion resistance, flex resistance, etc. have been evaluated. The properties show that zinc salt of the xanthate/ZDC accelerator system has a positive synergistic effect on the cure rate and mechanical properties of NBR compounds. |

| Abstract: | A series of short-isora-fiber-reinforced natural rubber composites were prepared by the incorporation of fibers of different lengths (6, 10, and 14 mm) at 15 phr loading and at different concentrations (10, 20, 30, and 40 phr) with a 10 mm fiber length. Mixes were also prepared with 10 mm long fibers treated with a 5% NaOH solution. The vulcanization parameters, processability, and stress-strain properties of these composites were analyzed. Properties such as tensile strength, tear strength, and tensile modulus were found to be at maximum for composites containing longitudinally oriented fibers 10 mm in length. Mixes containing fiber loadings of 30 phr with bonding agent (resorcinol-formaldehyde [RF] resin) showed mechanical properties superior to all other composites. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies were carried out to investigate the fiber surface morphology, fiber pullout, and fiber-rubber interface. SEM studies showed that the bonding between the fiber and rubber was improved with treated fibers and with the use of bonding agent. |

| Abstract: | Graphene has captured the attention of scientific community due to recently emerging high performance applications. Hence, studying its reinforcing effects on epoxy resin is a significant step. In this study, microwave exfoliated reduced graphene oxide (MERGO) was prepared from natural graphite for subsequent fabrication of epoxy nanocomposites using triethylenetetramine (TETA) as a curing agent via insitu polymerization. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), C13 NMR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultravioletevisible (UVevis) spectroscopy were employed to confirm the simultaneous reduction and exfoliation of graphene oxide. The reinforcing effect of MERGO on epoxy resin was explored by investigating its static mechanical properties and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) at MERGO loadings of 0 to 0.5 phr. The micro-structure of epoxy/MERGO nanocomposites was investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and XRD techniques. The present work reports an enhancement of 32%, 103% and 85% in tensile, impact and flexural strength respectively of epoxy by the addition of even 0.25 phr MERGO. At this loading elastic and flexural moduli also increased by 10% and 65%, respectively. Single-edge-notch three-point-Bending (SEN-TPB) fracture toughness (KIC) measurements were carried out where a 63% increase was observed by the introduction of 0.25 phr MERGO. The interfacial interactions brought about by graphene also benefited the dynamic mechanical properties to a large extent in the form of a significant enhancement in storage modulus and slightly improved glass transition temperature. Considerable improvements were also detected in dielectric properties. The epoxy nanocomposite also attained an ac conductivity of 10 5 S/m and a remarkable increase in dielectric constant. The simple and cost effective way of graphene synthesis for the fabrication of epoxy/MERGO nanocomposites may be extended to the preparation of other MERGO based polymer nanocomposites. This remarkable class of materials has thrown open enormous opportunities for developing conductive adhesives and in microelectronics |

| Abstract: | The mechanism of devulcanization of sulfur-vulcanized natural rubber with aromatic disulfides and aliphatic amines has been studied using 23-dimethyl-2-butene (C5H1,) as a low-molecular weight model compound. First C6H12 was vulcanized with a mixture of sulfur, zinc stearate and N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazylsulfenamide (CBS) as accelerator at 140 °C, resulting in a mixture of addition products (C(,H 1 i-S,-C5H 1 i ). The compounds were isolated and identified by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with respect to their various sulfur ranks. In it second stage, the vulcanized products were devulcanized using the agents mentioned above at 200 °C. The kinetics and chemistry of the breakdown of the sulfur-hridges were monitored. Both devulcanization agents decompose sulfidic vulcanization products with sulfur ranks equal or higher than 3 quite effectively and with comparable speed. Di phenyldisulfide as devulcanization agent gives rise to a high amount of mono- and disulfidic compounds formed during the devulcanization, hexadecylamine, as devulcanization agent, prevents these lower sulfur ranks from being formed. |
