Abstract:
An open photoacoustic cell operating in the low range of chopping
frequency has been employed to evaluate the thermal diffusivity values of
intrinsic InP and InP doped with S, Sn and Fe. The experimental set-up is
calibrated by the evaluation of thermal diffusivity value of pure Si and
GaAs. The present investigation shows that doped samples show a reduced
value for thermal diffusivity compared to intrinsic sample. From the
analysis of data it is also seen that nature of dopant clearly influences the
thermal diffusivity value of semiconductors. The results are explained in
terms of phonon assisted heat transfer mechanism in semiconductors

Abstract:
An open cell configuration has been employed for the photoacoustic measurement of the thermal diffusivity of undoped Bi2Se3 crystals and Bi2Se3 crystals doped with various concentrations of Te. The amplitude of the photoacoustic signal obtained under heat transmission configuration as a function of chopping frequency is used to evaluate the numerical value of thermal diffusivity, α. Doped samples show a substantial reduction in the value of α compared to undoped samples. The variations in the thermal diffusivity of the doped samples are explained in terms of the phonon assisted heat transfer mechanism. It is seen that α is very sensitive to structural variations arising from doping. The experimentally observed results are correlated with X-ray diffraction studies.

Abstract:
Two series of transition metal complexes of Schiff bases derived from
quinoxaline-2-carboxaldehyde with semicarbazide (QSC) and furfurylamine
(QFA) were synthesised and characterised by elemental analyses,
molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, electronic
and EPR spectral studies. The QSC complexes have the general
formula [M(QSC)Cl2]. A tetrahedral structure has been assigned for the
Mn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes and a square-planar structure for the
Cu(II) complex. The QFA complexes have the formula [M(QFA)2Cl2].
An octahedral structure has been assigned for these complexes. All of
the complexes exhibit catalytic activity towards the oxidation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol (DTBC) to 3,5-di-tert-butylquinone (DTBQ) using
atmospheric oxygen. The cobalt(II) complex of the ligand QFA was
found to be the most active catalyst.

Abstract:
Two-photon absorption spectrum of aniline is recorded using thermal lens effect with
optical parametric oscillator as the pump source. Studies show that the two-photon
absorption spectrum observed corresponds to I Al -. I B2 transition of aniline.

Abstract:
The wavelength dependence of thermal lens signal from organic dyes are studied using dual beam thermal lens technique. It is found that the profile of thermal lens spectrum widely differ from the conventional absorption spectrum in the case of rhodamine B unlike in the case of crystal violet. This is explained on the basis of varying contribution of nonradiative relaxations from the excited vibronic levels.

Abstract:
We propose and demonstrate a new technique for evanescent wave chemical sensing by writing long period gratings in a bare multimode plastic clad silica fiber. The sensing length of the present sensor is only 10 mm, but is as sensitive as a conventional unclad evanescent wave sensor having about 100 mm sensing length. The minimum measurable concentration of the sensor reported here is 10 nmol/l and the operating range is more than 4 orders of magnitude. Moreover, the detection is carried out in two independent detection configurations viz., bright field detection scheme that detects the core-mode power and dark field detection scheme that detects the cladding mode power. The use of such a double detection scheme definitely enhances the reliability and accuracy of the results. Furthermore, the cladding of the present fiber need not be removed as done in conventional evanescent wave fiber sensors.
