Abstract:
A new microstrip antenna element is described which exhibits polarization
agility. This is achieved by employing a T-slot radiator
which is driven by the edge fields of a balanced microstrip line. The
balanced line can support two propagating modes. namely. an even
mode and an odd mode, and be switching between these modes. the
orthogonal arms of the T-slot radiator are separately excited thus
forming orthogonally polarized radiated fields. A nucrostrip patch
antenna, which displays polarization agility using the sane mechanism,
is also described

Abstract:
The role of thyroid hormones in DNA synthesis and in the activity of Thymidille
kinase (TK), a key regulatory enzyme of DNA synthesis was studied in proliferating
hepatocytes in vivo. Liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy was used as a
model for controlled cell division in rats having different thyroid status - euthyroid,
hypothyroid and 3,3',5'-triiodo-L-thyronine (T))-heated hypothyroid. Partial
hepatectomy caused a significant elevation of DNA synthesis (p<0.01) in all the three
groups compared to their sham-operated counterparts. Hypothyroid liepatectomised
animals showed significantly lower (p<0.01) level of DNA synthesis than euthyroid
hepatectomised animals. A single subcutaneous close of 1'3 to hypothyroid shamoperated
animals resulted in a significant increase (p<0.01) of DNA synthesis in the
intact liver. 17tis was comparable to the level of DNA synthesis occurring in
regenerating liver of euthyroid animals. In hypothyroid hepatectomised animals, "1'3
showed an additive effect on l)NA synthesis and this group exhibited maximum level
of DNA synthesis (p<0.0I ). Studies of the kinetic parameters of TK show that the
Michelis-Menten constant, (K111) of TK for thymidine was altered by the thyroid
status. K11 increased significantly (p<0.01) in untreated hypothyroid animals when
compared to the euthyroid rats. '13 treatment of hypothyroid animals reversed this
effect and this group showed the lowest value for K111 (p<0.01). Thus our results
indicate that thyroid hormones can influence DNA synthesis during liver regeneration
and they may regulate the activity of enzymes such as 17rymidine kinase which are
important for DNA synthesis and hence cell division.
A bivariate semi-Pareto distribution is introduced
and characterized using geometric minimization.
Autoregressive minification models for bivariate random
vectors with bivariate semi-Pareto and bivariate Pareto
distributions are also discussed. Multivariate
generalizations of the distributions and the processes are briefly indicated.
This paper proposes different estimators for the parameters of SemiPareto and Pareto autoregressive minification processes The asymptotic properties of the estimators are established by showing that the SemiPareto process is α-mixing. Asymptotic variances of different moment and maximum likelihood estimators are compared.

Abstract:
The changes in surface acidity/basicity and catalytic activity of cerium oxide due to surface modification by sulphate ion have been
investigated. Electron donor properties of both the modified and unmodified oxides have been studied using electron acceptors of
various electron affinity values, viz. 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane, 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro--l, 4-benzoquinone. p-dinitrobenzene and
m-dinitrobenzene in order to find out whether the increase in acidity on suphation is due to the generation of new acidic sites or they are
formed at the expense of some of the basic sites. The surface acidity/basicity has been determined using a set of Hammett indicators.
The data have been correlated with the catalytic activity of the oxides for esterification of acetic acid using l-butanol, reduction of
cyclohexanone with 2- propanol and oxidation of cyclohexanol using benzophenone.

Abstract:
The limit of electron transfer in electron affinity from
the oxide surface to the electron acceptor (EA) are reported
from the adsorption of EA on DY203, mixed oxides
of DY203 with alumina and mixed oxides of Y203 with y-alumina.
The extent of electron transfer is understood
from magnetic measurements.

Abstract:
The reaction of aniline with methanol was carried out over Zn1-xNixFe2O4 (x= 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1) type systems in a
fixed-bed down-flow reactor. It was observed that systems possessing low ``x'' values are highly selective and active for mono
N-alkylation of aniline leading to N-methyl aniline. Selectivity for N-methyl aniline over ZnFe2O4 was more than 99% under
the optimized reaction conditions. Even at methanol to aniline molar ratio of 2, the yield of N-methyl aniline was nearly
55.5%, whereas its yield exceeded 67% at the molar ratio of 7. The Lewis acid sites of the catalysts are mainly responsible for
the good catalytic performance. Cation distribution in the spinel lattice influences their acido-basic properties, and hence,
these factors have been considered as helpful to evaluate the activity and stability of the systems.

Abstract:
Laser-induced photoelectric and photoemission optogalvanic effects in a Ne-Nd hollow cathode discharge have been studied using a continuous wave laser source. The potential barrier for photoinduced electron emission from the cathode decreases as the applied voltage is increased. Owing to secondary electron emission in the plasma, the photocurrent is greater than that without discharge. The multiplication of secondary electrons and the quantum efficiency are also investigated.

Abstract:
The phenomenon of mirage effect suffered by a He-Ne laser beam has been utilized to detect phase transitions in solids. It has been observed that anomalous fluctuations of large amplitude occur in the signal level near the transition temperature. The mean square value of the fluctuation is found to exhibit a well-defined peak at this point. Results of measurements made in the case of crystals of TGS ((NH2CH2COOH)3.H2SO4) and a ceramic sample (BaTiO3) are given to illustrate this technique.
