The cure characteristics of short fiber-polyurethane elastomer
were studied with respect to different fiber-matrix bonding agents. A hexamethylenetetramine-
resorcinol -hydrated silica based bonding agent was found to affect
the stability of the composite. A new bonding agent, TP resin, based on polymeric
toluenediisocyanate and polypropylene glycol has been developed. Cure characteristics
of the composite with and without TP resin at different fiber loadings were
also compared. Minimum torque, scorch time and optimum cure time increased
with fiber content. Maximum torque was consistently higher with TP resin at all
fiber loadings.
The (Ba1-x Srx) (Nd1/2, Nb1/2) O3 ceramics have been prepared by the conventional
ceramic route for different values of x. Addition of a small amount of
CeO2(1 wt%) as a sintering aid increased the density of the samples. The structure
and microstructure of the sintered samples are studied by X-ray diffraction
and SEM methods. The dielectric properties of the samples are measured in the
microwave frequency region as a function of composition. The dielectric constant
decreases as x increases. The coefficient of thermal variation of resonant
frequency decreases as the Sr content increases and goes to the negative side.
The dielectric properties of (Ba1-x Srx) (Nd1/2, Nb1/2) O3 are in the range suitable
for application as dielectric resonators in microwave circuits
Ceramics of composition BaO-Ln2O3-STiO2 have been prepared with four elements (Ln=La,Pr,Nd.Sm) by a conventional solid state ceramic preparation route and the dielectric properties measured in the microwave frequency range
A new group of compounds with composition (Ba5-xSrx) Nb4015, having high
permittivity and low loss have been prepared and characterized in the microwave
frequency region . X-ray diffraction studies showed that monophase compound
existed for all values of x from 0 to 5. Microwave dielectric properties such as
and c f showed smooth variation with x , while the unloaded quality factor (Qu)
showed remarkable improvement with x

Abstract:
Acid/base strength distribution of Y2O3 and its mixed
oxides with alumina catalysts are measured on Hammett
acidity function scale and expressed in terms of H0max
value. Basicity of Y2O3 increases with increase in activation
temperature and for mixed oxides the basicity increases
with increase in concentration of Y2O3, in the catalyst.

Abstract:
The Setschenow parameter and thermodynamic
parameters of transfer of 2- and 4- hydroxybenzoic acids
from water to salt solutions have been reported. The data
have been rationalised by considering the structure
breaking effects of the ions of the salts, the localized
hydrolysis model, the internal pressure theory and the
theory of water structure due to Symons.
The catalytic activity of Perovskite-type mixed oxides (LaCo03 . PrCo03 and SmCo03 ) for the
reduction of cyclohexanone to cyclohexanol with 2-propanol (Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction)
has been studied. The data have been correlated with the surface electron donor properties
of these mixed oxides.

Abstract:
The effect of Ce3+ on the fluorescence emission from CaS:Ce3+ phosphor is studied using X-ray excitation. Apart from the emission in the visible region, the phosphor also shows fluorescence emission in the ultraviolet region. Variation in wavelengths and intensities of these emissions due to change in dopant concentration is also analysed.

Abstract:
Pulsed photoacoustic measurements have been carried out in liquid CS2 using 532 nm radiation from a frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser. Variation of signal amplitude with laser fluence clearly indicates the role of multiphoton processes in the generation of photoacoustic effect. It is also shown that four photon induced dissociation and five photon induced ionization are likely processes in CS2 and 532 nm radiation.

Abstract:
Measurement of thermal lensing signal as a function of laser power made in Rhodamine B solutions in methanol give clear evidence of two photon absorption process within certain concentration ranges when 488 nm Ar+ laser beam is used as the pump source. Only one photon process is found to occur when 514 nm and 476 nm beams are used as the pump.
