Abstract:
In the present study we assessed plasma and platelet
monoamine content using high performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC). The study included 22 subjects
consisting of 12 freshly-detected male diabetic
patients and 10 age and sex-matched healthy controls.
The same parameters were measured in streptozotocin
-induced diabetic rat models consisting of
controls , diabetic and insulin - treated diabetic rats.
The platelet counts were significantly reduced
(P < 0.05) in rat models as well as human diabetic
samples. The plasma norepinephrine (NE) and epinephrine
(EPI) concentrations were significantly increased
(P < 0.05). The platelet showed a significant
increase (P < 0.01) in NE, EPI and serotonin content.
Increase in the plasma and platelet content of neurotransmitters
may be due to increased sympathetic
function, which is an adaptation for the decreased
platelet count observed in our study . The results indicate
that changes in the neurotransmitter content
of the platelet may be a good index to assess the neurotransmitter
status in pathological condition such as
diabetes mellitus.

In natural rubber/high styrene resin microcellular sheets, part of
natural rubber was replaced by latex reclaim prepared from waste
latex products. The mechanical properties and cell structure of
the products were evaluated. It was found that latex reclaim can
replace about 30% of natural rubber without affecting the technical
properties of the microcellular sheets.
ABSTRACT: Linseed oil is used in the dual roles of the plasticizer and the fatty
acid component of the activator in nitrile rubber vulcanizates. The study shows
that the substitution can substantially improve the mechanical properties in
addition to other advantages such as increased cure rate, reduced leachability
and reduced compound cost.
Waste latex products are converted to a processabto material by a novel
economical process developed in our laboratory , It contains rubber hydrocarbon
of very high quality and Is lightly cross -linked. Styrene-butadlene
rubber is mixed with latex reclaim In different proportions . The mechanical
properties are found to be improved up to 60 percent replacement of
styrene-butadlene rubber by latex reclaim . The curing of styrene-butadiene
rubber Is found to be accelerated by the addition of latex reclaim. The
processablllty study shows that the blends can be processed similar to
SBRINR blends.

Abstract:
Filled and gum compounds of Isobutylene-Isoprene rubber were extruded through a
laboratory extruder at various feeding rates, different temperatures and revolutions per
minute. The extruded compounds were vulcanized up to their optimum cure times and
the mechanical properties of the vulcanizates were determined. The properties suggest
that there is a particular feeding rate in the starved fed region, which results in maximum
mechanical properties. The study shows that running the extruder at a slightly
starved condition is an attractive means of improving the physical properties.

Abstract:
A new microstrip antenna geometry with considerable reduction
in size, with similar radiation characteristics to those of an
equivalent rectangular patch antenna is proposed. A relationship
has been suggested for fmding out the resonant frequency of the
new geometry, and its validity has been established by the
experimental results. Without increasing the aperture area, this
geometry also offers a facility for considerably reducing the
resonant frequency compared to conventional patches.

Abstract:
The functional basis of diabetes-mellitus to a certain extent,
can be elucidated by studying diabetes-induced changes
in metabolic enzymes. Malate dehydrogenase (MDH),
is an enzyme directly involved in glucose metabolism. The
kinetic parameters of MDH and its purified cytosolic isozyme,
S-MDH, have been studied in the liver of streptozotocin-
diabetic rats; also the potential of the leaf extract of A.
marmelose as an was investigated. The
Km of the liver enzyme increased significantly, in both
crude and purified preparations in the diabetic state when
compared to Lhe respective controls. Insulin as well as leaf-
•extract treatment of the diabetic rats brought about a reversal
of K. values to near normal. Vmax of purified S-MDH
was significantly higher in the diabetic state when compared
to the control. Insulin and leaf extract treatment did not
reverse this change. Since MDH is an important enzyme in
glucose metabolism, the variation in its quantitative and
qualitative nature may contribute to the pathological status
of diabetes. The fact that leaf extract of A. marmelose
was found to be as effective as insulin in restoration of blood
glucose and body weight to normal levels, the use of A.
marmelose as potential hypoglycemic agent is suggested.

Abstract:
Analysis of the emission bands of the CN molecules in the plasma generated from
a graphite target irradiated with 1-06/~m radiation pulses from a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser has
been done. Depending on the position of the sampled volume of the plasma plume, the intensity
distribution in the emission spectra is found to change drastically. The vibrational temperature
and population distribution in the different vibrational levels have been studied as function of
distance from the target for different time delays with respect to the incidence of the laser pulse.
The translational temperature calculated from time of flight is found to be higher than the
observed vibrational temperature for CN molecules and the reason for this is explained.
