A dynamical system with a damping that is quadratic in velocity is converted into the Hamiltonian format using a nonlinear transformation. Its quantum mechanical behaviour is then analysed by invoking the Gaussian effective potential technique. The method is worked out explicitly for the Duffing oscillator potential.

Abstract:
A compact, planar, wideband antenna designed by modifying the coplanar waveguide is presented in this letter. The proposed antenna finds a wide range of applications including advanced wireless systems (AWS), DCS-1800, DCS-1900/PCS/PHS, WiBro, BlueTooth/WLAN/WiBree/ZigBee, DMB, Global Star Satellite Phones, and digital cordless phones. Wide bandwidth > 75% centered at 2.50 GHz, quasi-omnidirectional radiation coverage along with moderate gain and efficiency are the salient features of the antenna. A prototype fabricated on a substrate with dielectric constant 4.4 and thickness 1.6 mm occupies an area of (31times 64) mm2. Details of antenna design and discussions on the effect of various antenna parameters on the radiation characteristics are presented.

Effective use of fractal-based metallo-dielectric structures for enhancing the radar cross-section (RCS) of dihedral corner reflectors is reported. RCS enhancement of about 30 dBsm is obtained for corner reflectors with corner angles other than 90deg. This may find application in remote sensing and synthetic aperture radar.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) optical fibres are fabricated by a preform drawing process.
The Raman spectra of PMMA fibres are recorded using a diode pumped solid state laser
emitting at 532 nm and a CCD-spectrograph in the 400–3800 cm−1 range. The variation of the
Raman intensity with the length of the optical fibre is studied. Investigations are carried out on
the variation of FWHM of the Raman peak at 2957 cm−1 with the length of the optical fibre and
pump power. The differential scattering cross section and gain coefficient of the Raman peak at
2957 cm−1 in PMMA are calculated in relation to that of toluene.

A novel fixed frequency beam scanning microstrip leaky wave antenna is reported. The beam scanning at fixed frequency is achieved by reactive loading. Simulation and measured results shows frequency scanability of 80° as well as fixed frequency beam steering of 68° over the −10 dB impedance band of 4.56–5.06 GHz.

A sensitive method based on the principle of photothermal phenomena to realize optical

A novel reconfigurable, single feed, dual frequency, dualpolarized
operation of a hexagonal slot-loaded square mwrostrip antenna
is presented in this paper. A pin diode incorporated in the slot is
used to switch the two operating frequencies considerably, without significantly
affecting the radiation characteristics and gain. The proposed
antenna provides a size reduction up to 61% and 26% Jor the two resonating
frequencies, compared to standard rectangular patches. This design
also gives considerable bandwidth up to 3.3% and 4.27%, for the two
frequencies with a low operating frequency ratio

In this paper, we present an effective excitation of a reelangular
dielectric resonator antennas (DRA) with a conductor-hacked
coplanar waveguide (CB-CPW). The radiation and resonance characteristics
are found to van,, depending on the orientation of the DR on
doe coplanar feed line. The effect of finite and infinite ground planes of
CB-CPIV on the radiation characteristics of the rectangular DRA is
studied. The orientation and position of the DR are optimized for maximum
gain and bandwidth. The optimized antenna ,geometry offers
--10.46 dBi gain and 7.5% bandwidth with low cross-polar radiation

Abstract:
It is observed that reclamation of natural rubber
latex based rubber using 2,2'-dibenzamidodiphenvldisulphide
as reclaiming agent is an optional methodology for
recycling of waste latex rubber (WLR). For progressive replacement
of virgin natural rubber by the reclaim, two alternatives
curing system were investigated: adjustment or reduction of
the curing system with increasing reclaim content, to compensate
for the extra amount of curatives brought along by the reclaim.
For fixed curing system, as if the reclaim were equivalent
to virgin NR. The cure behavior, final crosslink density
and distribution, mechanical properties, and dynamic
viscoelastic properties of the blends with reclaimed WLR are
measured and compared with the virgin compound. The morphology of the blends, sulfur migration, and final distribution
are analyzed. The mechanical and dynamic viscoelastic
properties deteriorate for both curing systems, but to a lesser
extent for fixed curing system compared to adjusted curing
system. With the fixed cure system, many properties like tensile
strength and compression set do still deteriorate, but tan 6
and Mrrr„/Murxr, representative for the rolling resistance of tires
are improved. On the other hand, with the adjusted cure system
both mechanical and dynamic properties still deteriorate.

Abstract:
A red rain phenomenon occurred in Kerala, India starting from 25th July 2001,
in which the rainwater appeared coloured in various localized places that are spread
over a few hundred kilometers in Kerala. Maximum cases were reported during
the first 10 days and isolated cases were found to occur for about 2 months. The
striking red colouration of the rainwater was found to be due to the suspension
of microscopic red particles having the appearance of biological cells. These particles have no similarity with usual desert dust. An estimated minimum quantity
of 50,000 kg of red particles has fallen from the sky through red rain. An analysis of this strange phenomenon further shows that the conventional atmospheric
transport processes like dust storms etc. cannot explain this phenomenon. The
electron microscopic study of the red particles shows fine cell structure indicat-
ing their biological cell like nature. EDAX analysis shows that the major elements
present in these cell like particles are carbon and oxygen. Strangely, a test for DNA
using Ethidium Bromide dye fluorescence technique indicates absence of DNA in
these cells. In the context of a suspected link between a meteor airburst event and
the red rain, the possibility for the extraterrestrial origin of these particles from
cometary fragments is discussed.

Salicylaldehyde Schiff base of amino-methylated
polystyrene has been developed as a novel reagent for the removal
of Fe(III) from solutions. The selectivity of the metal
ion uptake over a wide range of different concentrations of
metal ion, effect of pH, ligand concentration and the influence
of other foreign ions were studied. A very good selectivity
was achieved for the removal of the ion. It was found
that 0.01 g of the ligand was sufficient to achieve about 96%
removal of the metal ion in terms of concentration (ppm)
from a 30 ppm solution in acidic pH.

Abstract:
The arrow shaped microstrip antenna, which produces
dual frequency dual polarisation operation with considera-ble size reduction compared to conventional patches has been
reported [I]. These antennas provide greater area reduction and
improved gain compared to drum shaped patches [2]. Prediction
of the resonance frequency of drum shaped patches [3] and circular
patches for broadband operation [4] are available in the literature.
In this Letter, we propose empirical formulas for calculating
the resonance frequencies of the arrow shaped microstrip antenna.
These antennas can be employed for obtaining dual frequency
with the same polarisation, bandwidth enhancement, circular
polarisation etc. by varying its different parameters or by introducing
slots. The proposed design equations provide an easier and
simple way of predicting the resonant frequencies of these patches.
