Abstract:
The enthalpies of formation of charge-transfer complexes of benzene, chlorobenzene, and 1,3-dichlorobenzene
as donors with 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane as acceptor were determined. The thermochemical
data show an increased stability of charge-transfer complexes of donors with permanent dipole moment.
The results confirm the importance of electrostatic forces in bonding and stabilizing weak complexes.
The approximate formation constants of the complexes are also reported.

Abstract:
The Setschenow parameters of solubility in salt solutions and the
thermodynamic parameters (25·C) of transfer from aqueous
solution to aqueous salt solutions for 2-nitrobenzoic acid and 3-nitrobenzoic
acid have been reported. The data have been
rationalized on the basis of the localized hydrolysis model and the
structure breaking action of ions of the electrolytes.

Abstract:
Third order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) and second hyperpolarizability (γ) of a bis-naphthalocyanine viz. europium naphthalocyanines, Eu(Nc)2, were measured in dimethyl formamide solution using degenerate four wave mixing at 532 nm under nanosecond pulse excitation. Effective nonlinear absorption coefficient, βeff and imaginary part of nonlinear susceptibility, Im(χ(3)) were obtained using open aperture /Z-scan technique at the same wavelength. Optical limiting property of the sample was also investigated. The role of excited state absorption in deciding the nonlinear properties of this material is discussed.
This manuscript describes the first example of silver ion complex of a dendritic tetranitrile ligand catalyzed
one-pot three component Mannich reaction and 1,5-benzodiazepine synthesis. The catalyst can be separated from the
products by a change in the solvent. The catalyst is reusable.
In this paper we try to fit a threshold autoregressive (TAR) model to time series data of monthly coconut oil prices at Cochin market. The procedure proposed by Tsay [7] for fitting the TAR model is briefly presented. The fitted model is compared with a simple autoregressive (AR) model. The results are in favour of TAR process. Thus the monthly coconut oil prices exhibit a type of non-linearity which can be accounted for by a threshold model.

Abstract:
In order to characterise the laser ablation process from high-Tc superconductors, the time evolution of plasma produced by a Q-switching Nd:YAG laser from a GdBa2Cu3O7 superconducting sample has been studied using spectroscopic and ion-probe techniques. It has been observed that there is a fairly large delay for the onset of the emission from oxide species in comparison with those from atoms and ions of the constituent elements present in the plasma. Faster decay occurs for emission from oxides and ions compared with that from neutral atoms. These observations support the view that oxides are not directly produced from the target, but are formed by the recombination process while the plasma cools down. Plasma parameters such as temperature and velocity are also evaluated.

Abstract:
Laser radiation at 1.06 µm from a pulsed Nd:YAG
laser was focused onto a multielement YBa2Cu3O7 target in
vacuum and the plasma thus generated was studied using
time-resolved spectroscopic techniques. Line broadening of
the Ba I emission line at 553.5 nm was monitored as a function
of time elapsed after the incidence of a laser pulse on the
target. Measured line profiles of barium species were used to
infer the electron density and temperature, and the time evolution
of these important plasma parameters has been worked out.

Abstract:
We report time resolved study of C2 emission from laser produced carbon plasma in presence of ambient helium
gas. The 1.06µm: radiation from a Nd:YAG laser was focused onto a graphite target where it·produced a transient
plasma. We observed double peak structure in the time profile of C2 species. The twin peaks were observed only
after a threshold laser fluence. It is proposed that the faster velocity component in the temporal profiles originates
mainly due to recombination processes. The laser fluence and ambient gas dependence of the double peak intensity
distribution is also reported.

Abstract:
Time and space resolved studies of emission from CN molecules have been carried out in the plasma produced from
graphite target by 1.06 urn pulses from a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Depending on the laser pulse energy, time of
observation and position of the sampled volume of the plasma, the features of the emission spectrum are found to
change drastically. The vibrational temperature and population distribution in the different vibrational levels have
been studied as functions of distance, time, laser energy and ambient gas pressure. Evidence for nonlinear effects of
the plasma medium such as self focusing which exhibits threshold-like behaviour are also obtained. Temperature and
electron density of the plasma have been evaluated using the relative line intensities of successive ionization stages of
carbon atom. These electron density measurements are verified by using Stark broadening method.

Abstract:
Kerala, a classic ecotourism destination in India, provides significant opportunities for livelihood options to the
people who depend on the resources from the forest and those who live in difficult terrains. This article analyses
the socio-demographic, psychographic and travel behavior patterns and its sub-characteristics in the background
of foreign and domestic tourists. The data source for the article has been obtained from a primary survey of 350
randomly chosen tourists, 175 each from domestic and foreign tourists, visiting Kerala’s ecotourists destinations
during August-December 2010-11. Several socio-demographic, psychographic and life style factors have been
identified based on the inference from field survey. There is considerable divergence in most of the factors
identified in the case of domestic and international tourists. Post-trip attributes like satisfaction and intentions to
return show that the ecotourism destinations in Kerala have significant potential that can help communities in the
region.

Abstract:
In this paper an attempt has been made to determine
the number of Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC) cycles
accurately from a given Electrocardiogram (ECG) using a
wavelet constructed from multiple Gaussian functions. It is
difficult to assess the ECGs of patients who are continuously
monitored over a long period of time. Hence the proposed
method of classification will be helpful to doctors to determine
the severity of PVC in a patient. Principal Component Analysis
(PCA) and a simple classifier have been used in addition to the
specially developed wavelet transform. The proposed wavelet has
been designed using multiple Gaussian functions which when
summed up looks similar to that of a normal ECG. The number
of Gaussians used depends on the number of peaks present in a
normal ECG. The developed wavelet satisfied all the properties
of a traditional continuous wavelet. The new wavelet was
optimized using genetic algorithm (GA). ECG records from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital
(MIT-BIH) database have been used for validation. Out of the
8694 ECG cycles used for evaluation, the classification algorithm
responded with an accuracy of 97.77%. In order to compare the
performance of the new wavelet, classification was also
performed using the standard wavelets like morlet, meyer,
bior3.9, db5, db3, sym3 and haar. The new wavelet outperforms

Abstract:
This article present the result from a study of two sediment cores collected from the
environmentally distinct zones of CES. Accumulation status of five toxic metals: Cadmium (Cd), Chromium
(Cr), Cobalt (Co), Copper (Cu) and Lead (Pb) were analyzed. Besides texture and CHNS were determined to
understand the composition of the sediment. Enrichment Factor (EF) and Anthropogenic Factor (AF) were
used to differentiate the typical metal sources. Metal enrichment in the cores revealed heavy load at the
northern (NS1 ) region compared with the southern zone (SS1). Elevation of metal content in core NS1 showed
the industrial input. Statistical analyses were employed to understand the origin of metals in the sediment
samples. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) distinguishes the two zones with different metal accumulation
capacity: highest at NS1 and lowest at SS1. Correlation analysis revealed positive significant relation only in
core NS1, adhering to the exposition of the intensified industrial pollution

Abstract:
Concentrations and distributions of trace metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in surficial sediments of the Cochin
backwaters were studied during both monsoon and pre-monsoon periods. Spatial variations were in accordance with textural
charaterstics and organic matter content. A principal component analysis distinguished three zones with different metal accumulation
capacity: (i) highest levels in north estuary, (ii) moderate levels in central zone, and (iii) lowest levels in southern part.
Trace metal enrichments are mainly due to anthropogenic contribution of industrial, domestic, and agricultural effluents, whose
effect is enhanced by settling of metals due to organic flocculation and inorganic precipitation associated with salinity changes.
Enrichments factors using Fe as a normalizer showed that metal contamination was the product of anthropogenic activities. An
assessment of degree of pollution-categorized sediments as moderately polluted with Cu and Pb, moderately-to-heavily polluted
with Zn, and heavily-to-extremely polluted with Cd. Concentrations at many sites largely exceed NOAA ERL (e.g., Cu, Cr, and Pb)
or ERM (e.g., Cd, Ni, and Zn). This means that adverse effects for benthic organisms are possible or even highly probable.

The transient characteristics of an erbium-doped fiber
(F.DF) laser, which can switch between wavelengths. are investigated.
