Abstract:
The aim of the present study is to understand the biennial scale stratosphere-troposphere interactions over India, and synoptic to interannual timescale meridional stratosphere-troposhere exchanges caused by upper tropospheric/lower stratospheric longwaves using NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data and satellite measured total ozone data. The biennial timescale interaction between lower stratosphere and troposphere over Thumba is analysed using high-resolution radiosonde data. The results suggest that TBO and QBO are two different phenomena with nearly biennial periodicity. Interannual timescale meridional stratosphere-troposphere exchanges caused by the newly documented Asia Pacific Wave (APW) were analysed using ozone as tracer of atmospheric motion. Synoptic timescale meridional stratosphere-troposhere exchanges caused by subtropical upper tropospheric long waves over Asia were studied using global total ozone measurements from TOMS. This research work can be extended to study the influence of decadal scale epochal nature in Indian summer monsoon activity on the APW generated total ozone anomalies around the globe and the trend estimates in total ozone

Abstract:
The effect of diphenylmethane diisocyanate
(MDI) -polyethyleneglycol (PEG) resin on the cure characteristics and mechanical
properties of nitrile rubber/whole tyre eclaim-short nylon fiber
composite-was studied. At a constant loading of 5 phr, the resin composition
was varied. The minimum torque .,id (maximum - minimum) torque increased
with isocyanate concentration. Scorch time and cure time showed a reduction on
introduction of bonding agent. Properties like tensile strength, tear strength, and
abrasion resistance increased with increase in MDI/PEG ratio, and these
properties are higher in the longitudinal direction of fiber orientation.
Compression set increased with isocyanate concentration and the resilience
remain unchanged.

Abstract:
Cure characteristics and mechanical properties of styrene butadiene rubber
reclaimed rubber blends were studied. The blends showed improved processability,
as indicated by the minimum torque values. Cure characteristics like minimum
torque, (maximum-minimum) torque, cure time and cure rate decreased in the
presence of reclaimed rubber. Tensile strength, tear strength, elongation at break
were higher for blends. Resilience decreased with reclaim content. Compression set
and abrasion loss were higher in the blends.

Abstract:
Ultrasonic is a good tool to investigate the elastic properties of crystals. It enables one to determine all the elastic constants, Poisson’s ratios, volume compressibility and bulk modulus of crystals from velocity measurements. It also enables one to demonstrate the anisotropy of elastic properties by plotting sections of the surfaces of phase velocity, slowness, group velocity, Young’s modulus and linear compressibility along the a-b, b-c and a-c planes. They also help one to understand more about phonon amplification and help to interpret various phenomena associated with ultrasonic wave propagation, thermal conductivity, phonon transport etc. Study of nonlinear optical crystals is very important from an application point of view. Hundreds of new NLO materials are synthesized to meet the requirements for various applications. Inorganic, organic and organometallic or semiorganic classes of compounds have been studied for several reasons. Semiorganic compounds have some advantages over their inorganic and inorganic counterparts with regard to their mechanical properties. High damage resistance, high melting point, good transparency and non-hygroscopy are some of the basic requirements for a material to be suitable for device fabrication. New NLO materials are being synthesized and investigation of the mechanical and elastic properties of these crystals is very important to test the suitability of these materials for technological applications

Abstract:
The thesis deals with the development of short nylon fiber-reclaimed
rubber/elastomer composites. Three rubbers viz, natural
rubber, acrylonitrile butadiene rubber and styrene butadiene rubber
were selected and were partially replaced with reclaimed rubber.
The blend ratio was optimized with respect to cure characteristics
and mechanical properties. Reclaimed rubber replaced 40 parts of
NR and SBR and 20 parts of NBR without much affecting the
properties. These blends were then reinforced with short nylon
fibers. The mechanical properties of the composites were studied
in detail. In all the cases the tensile strength, tear strength and the
abrasion resistance increased with increase in fiber content. In the
case of NRlreclaimed rubber blends, the tensile strength-fiberloading
relationship was non-linear where as in the case of
NBRlreclaimed rubber blends and SBRlreclaimed rubber blends
the tensile strength-fiber loading relationship was linear. All the
composites showed anisotropy in mechanical properties. The effect
of bonding system on the composite properties was also studied
with respect to cure characteristics and mechanical properties. For
this, a 20 phr fiber loaded reclaimed rubber/elastomer composites
were selected and the effect of MDI/PEG resin system was studied.
The resin used was 5 phr and the resin ratios used were 0.67: I, 1:1,
1.5:1 and 2:1. The bonding system improved the tensile strength,
tear strength and abrasion resistance. The best results are with
SBRlreclaimed rubber-short nylon fiber composites. The
optimized resin ratio was 1:1 MDI/PEG for all the composites.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Polyaniline was synthesized by using ammonium persulfate initiator in the
presence of 1M HC1. It was dried under different drying conditions like room temperature
drying (for 48 h), oven drying (at 50-60°C for 8 h under a vacuum), and vacuum
drying (at room temperature for 16 h). The conductivities of these samples were
measured at microwave frequencies. These samples were also pelletized and the
measurements were repeated. The cavity perturbation technique was used for the
study.

Abstract:
A new polymer matrix sensitized with methylene blue for use as an optical recording material is described
here. The characterization is done to determine the optimal recording conditions. These films need no
chemical development and are found to be stable for several months. The matrix has excellent shelf life
and needs an exposure only as short as 20 s. Direct imaging was done on this material.

Abstract:
A new compact dual-band, dual-polarized microstrip antenna
is presented. 7'iris antenna resonates at two frequencies with
different polarizations: a linearly polarized one for terrestrial
communication, and a circularly polarized one for satellite mobile
communication. This antenna also provides an area reduction of 70%
compared to a standard rectangular patch antenna

Abstract:
A new configuration that employs a conducting conformal
strip to excite the low-profile equilaterial-triangular dielectric resonator
antenna (DRA) of very high permittivity is proposed. As compared with
the previous aperture-coupling configuration, the new configuration has
a wider impedance bandwidth (- 5.5%) and a higher front-to-back
radiation ratio. The return loss, radiation patterns, and antenna gain are
