Abstract:
In this study, an attempt has been made to gather enough information regarding lactic acid bacteria from fish and shellfish of tropical regions. The occurrence and distribution of lactic acid bacteria in fresh and frozen marine fish and shellfish, farmed fish and shellfish, cured and pickled fish and shellfish have been investigated. Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) have for centuries been responsible for the fermentative preservation of many foods. They are used to retard spoilage and preserve foods through natural fermentations. They have found commercial applications as
starter cultures in the dairy, baking, meat, fish, and vegetable and alcoholic beverage
industries. They are industrially important organisms recognized for their fermentative
ability as well as their nutritional benefits. These organisms produce various compounds
such as organic acids, diacetyl, hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins or bactericidal
proteins during lactic fermentations.Biopreservation of foods using bacteriocin producing LAB cultures is becoming widely used. The antimicrobial effect of bacteriocins and other compounds
produced during fermentation of carbohydrates are well known to inhibit the growth of
certain food spoiling bacteria as well as a limited group of food poisoning and pathogenic bacteria LAB like Lactobacillus plantarum are widely used as starter cultures for the
Production of fish ensilage. The present study is the first quantitative and qualitative study on the
occurrence and distribution of lactic acid bacteria in fresh and frozen fish and prawn. It
is concluded that Lactobacillus plantaruni was the predominant lactobacillus species in fresh and frozen fish and shellfish. The ability of selected Lactobacillus cultures to grow at low temperatures, high salt content, produce bacteriocins, rapidly ferment sugars and decrease the pH make them potential candidates for biopreservation of fish and shellfish.

Abstract:
In this paper, a comparison study among three neuralnetwork
algorithms for the synthesis of array patterns is presented. The
neural networks are used to estimate the array elements' excitations for
an arbitrary pattern. The architecture of the neural networks is discussed
and simulation results are presented. Two new neural networks,
based on radial basis functions (RBFs) and wavelet neural networks
(WNNs), are introduced. The proposed networks offer a more efficient
synthesis procedure, as compared to other available techniques

Abstract:
The thesis contains the results of an investigation on the " Population Genetic Structure of the Penaeus indicus " from southeast and southwest coasts of India. The P.indicus, popularly known as the Indian white prawn, is distributed widely in the Indo-Pacific, starting from New South wales in Australia in the east to the east coast of Africa in the west. Its heavy demand in the export market, the species has been exploited intensively from all along its areas of distribution in Indian waters. The population genetic characteristics of the species were examined by three independent but complementary techniques, namely, morphometrics (truss network), biochemical genetics (isozyme electrophoresis ) and molecular genetics (RFLP and RAPD). The east and west coast populations of the species may be genetically different. Due to certain constraints, the results obtained from the studies of restriction fragment length 70 polymorphism (RFLP) were limited. The significant difference in the number of bands in the sample populations strongly suggests that these two populations have considerably different population genetic structures

Abstract:
A novel dual frequency design of a square microstrip antenna coaxially
fed along the diagonal with a chip capacitor mounted at the bottom of
the stub is introduced. This design provides enhanced area reduction and
good cross-polarization levels. The antenna design can be used as a compact

Abstract:
In this paper, the generation of a multiwavelength laser
source from a Brillouin -Erbium fiber laser in the long wavelength band
(L-band) region is experimentally demonstrated. The proposed laser
system utilizes a Fabrv-Perot cavity formed by fiber-loop mirrors.
Twenty-four lines of Brillouin-Stokes with line spacings of 10 GHz are
obtained in the L-band region

Abstract:
A navel ultra-thin radar-absorbing material (RAM) using
metanwterials is presented and the absorption performance is examined.
Due to the high-impedance property of the metamalerials. the thickness
of the RAM is about several tenths of the center wavelength of the absorption
band, which is considerably thinner than conventional absorbers.
The absorption bandwidth of the RAM is about several hundred
megahertz
A microwave dielectric ceramic resonator based on BaCe2Ti5O15 and Ba5Nb4O15 have been prepared by conventional solid state ceramic route. The dielectric resonators (DRs) have high dielectric constant 32 and 40 for BaCe2Ti5O15 and Ba5Nb4O15, respectively. The whispering gallery mode (WGM) technique was employed for the accurate determination of the dielectric properties in the microwave frequency range. The BaCe2Ti5O15 and Ba5Nb4O15 have quality factors (Q X F) of 30,600 and 53,000 respectively. The quality factor is found to depend on the azimuthal mode numbers. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (Tr) of BaCe2Ti5O15 and Ba5Nb4O15 have been measured accurately using different
resonant modes and are + 41 and + 78 ppm/K, respectively

Abstract:
The main objectives of the present investigation were to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative distribution of natural cyanobacterial population and their ecobiological properties along the Cochin estuary and their application in aquaculture systems as a nutritional supplement due to their nutrient-rich biochemical composition and antioxidant potential. This thesis presents a detailed account of the distribution of cyanobacteria in Cochin estuary, an assessment of physico-chemical parameters and the nutrients of the study site, an evaluation of the effect of physico-chemical parameters on cyanobacterial distribution and abundance, isolation, identification and culturing of cyanobacteria, the biochemical composition an productivity of cyanobacteria, and an evaluation of the potential of the selected cyanobacteria as antioxidants against ethanol induced lipid peroxidation. The pH, salinity and nutritional requirements were optimized for low-cost production of the selected cyanobacterial strains. The present study provides an insight into the distribution, abundance, diversity and ecology of cyanobacteria of Cochin estuary. From the results, it is evident that the ecological conditions of Cochin estuary support a rich cyanobacterial growth.
