Abstract:
Selected grades of low density polyethylene (LDPE) polystyrene (PS) were extruded in a
laboratory extruder by varying the feeding rate at different revolutions per minute and
temperatures. The mechanical properties of the extruded plastic sheets were determined.
LDPE shows a marked variation in mechanical properties with feeding rate while PS
shows a marginal change in mechanical properties with feeding rate. However, for both
plastics there is a particular feeding rate in the starved region which results in maximum
mechanical properties.

Abstract:
Process parameters influencing e-glutaminase production by marine Vibrio costicola in solid state fermentation
(SSF) using polystyrene as an inert support were optimised. Maximal enzyme yield (157 U/g dry
substrate) was obtained at 2% (w/w) t:glutamine, 35°C and pH 7.0 after 24 h. Maltose and potassium
dihydrogen phosphate at 1% (w/w) concentration enhanced enzyme yield by 23 and 18%, respectively, while
nitrogen sources had an inhibitory effect. Leachate with high specific activity for glutaminase (4.2 U/mg
protein) and low viscosity (0-966 Ns/m 2) was recovered from the polystyrene SSF system

Abstract:
Various synthesis routes have been developed in recent years for the
preparation of nanoparticles. One of those methods is polymer induced
crystallization. The first objective of the present work was to prepare nano ZnO
powder by polymer induced crystallization in chitosan solution and to
characterize the material using different techniques like TEM, SEM, XRD,
FTLR, UV spectroscopy, TGA, DSC etc.The second object of the study is to prepare composites using nano ZnO. It
has been undertaken to explore the potential of nano ZnO as reinforcement in
engineering as well as commodity thermoplastics to widen their application
spectra. We selected three engineering thermoplastics like [poly ethylene
terephthalate, polyamide 6, and polycarbonate] and three commodity plastics
like [polypropylene, high density polyethylene, and polystyrene] for the study.
To date one of the few disadvantages associated with nanoparticle incorporation
has concerned toughness and impact performance. Modification of polymers
could reduce impact performance. The present study also focused on whether
nano ZnO can act as a modifier for thennoplastics, without sacrificing their
impact strength.

Abstract:
Polystyrene beads, impregnated with mineral salts/glutamine medium as inert support, were used to produce
L-glutaminase from Vibrio costicola by solid-state fermentation. Maximum enzyme yield, 88 U/g substrate, was
after 36 h. Glucose at 10 g/kg enhanced the enzyme yield by 66%. The support system allowed glutaminase to
be recovered with higher specific activity and lower viscosity than when a wheat-bran system was used
